SC Turkey Hunting In March
Yes our SC turkey hunting season started March 15th in the Low Country. Although turkey season started, our SC hog hunting never stops. The hog hunting has contined to be amazing to say the least. With cooler than normal tempatures and plenty of rain to wet the ground, the SC hogs have been in hog heaven and on the move. We have had plenty of new hog hunters at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge lately as well as some of our seasonal pros.
David from Atlanta was down again and as usual made good of his time hunting the low country. David first took a nice meat hog and then on his next outing took a huge dry sow. Always fun spending time hunting with David.
Next we had our long time special friend from PA, Taylor, back again for another hog hunt. Taylor is one of those special people that can find the good things about people and life that so many of us take for granted. He has been a member of the Cypress Creek family for many years and we always enjoy our time together in the great outdoors. This time Taylor took a perfect size boar for the dinner table on his first afternoon hunt. Taylor made a perfect shot and brought home the bacon. Congratulations to Taylor and we are looking forward to your next trip to Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge. Way to go buddy!
Next we had Jody, his wife Lisa, and their fine son Tristen down from TN for their first S.C. Hog Hunt. First I would like to say what a fine family they are and it was a blessing to have them hunt with us. Tristen was the first to have hogs in his sights and with a missed shot, the hogs will grow even bigger for his next hunt. It was his dad, Jody, that brought home the bacon with a nice, big, dry sow. Plenty of pork to take home to TN and a great family outing together.
Tom, Sr. & Tom, Jr. were down from PA for their first hog hunt and their first SC hunting trip. Tom, Jr. got it done with a perfect shot on a big dry sow. He had a group of hogs to pick from on his morning hunt.
Dr. Scott was down from MA and took an unusual SC boar with huge tusks and was silver in color. This was his first hunt ever and plans to do alot more hunting in the future.
Patrick from OH was back for his second successful hunt at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge and took a big tasty sow. Patrick & Dr. Scott actually sat in a double stand together and Patrick shot his fine hog after Dr. Scott had taken his huge silver boar. Way to go guys!
Murf completed the group hunt with another big hog to take home to OH.
Bradley was the fourth hunter in the group. Bradley did not shoot a hog on their hunt, but he did see several big sows with plenty of pigs to watch.
Tommy and his wife, Pamela were down again from VA to pursue the SC hogs and had a great time although Tommy managed to miss his opportunity when a group of big hogs come out right at dark as they often do.
Our next group were also down from VA to try their hand at some SC hog hunting and they too, made good on their hog hunts. Charles took a trophy boar with nice cutters on his pm hunt after a big rain. On the same evening his brother-in-law, Larry, also took a great boar with some real good tusks as well. These guys obviously have done alot of hunting and we hope to have time back again for alot of SC hunting.
Now for some great SC turkey hunting success. Our great friend and one of the all time best known turkey hunters, Mr. Larry Profitt. Larry was here at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge again this year to take advantage of some exciting SC turkey hunting. As usual Larry called in and took three SC long beards to add to his many grand slams that he does each year. If you are ever in the Bristol, TN area, stop in at The Original Ridgewood Barbecue for some of the best ole’ time barbecue ever. I know you will enjoy it and may get to talk some turkey hunting with the Best, Larry Profitt. If he’s not out turkey hunting!
It was David from Atlanta that again started his season off with his guide, Henry, to take a big 11 1/2″ bearded gobbler. Way to go guys!
Next we had Jim from SD and George from NC to work on their turkey grand slam. They successfully took their turkey, with their guide Justin, on the evening hunt with a great 10″ bearded bird. Congratulation guys and good luck on the rest of your slams.
Tom with Hunters Specialities and his friend Tom from PA were successful and took a great bird with 1 1/2″ spurs and a 10″ beard.
Rain and wind has pledged the turkey season so far, but the woods are full of turkeys and we are anxiously waiting for better weather to go after these thunder chickens.
