September Hunting Stays Hot
Since the busy opening week of deer season, Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge has kept up the pace with a steady stream of hunters visiting us in the lowcountry. And while traditionally the hunting is never as good in September as it is in August, our hunters have managed to still see lots of deer and hogs, get shots at some of them and kill a few good ones.
Labor Day weekend started us off with a good crowd at the lodge for our annual opening day dove shoot, and everyone had great time shooting those fast flying birds. In addition, everyone saw good movement from the stands all weekend as well for both big hogs and big bucks. Matt, down from PA with his family, shot a
great 8 point buck over on Pleasant Hill to keep us on the scoreboard for big, mountable bucks. That weekend we also had NC’s Gary J. and his family joining us for some gator and hog hunting, and Gary Sr. had some very close calls with several monster gators over 10 feet but just couldn’t close the deal in our canals. However his son Colby shot a nice 7 footer to put some gator tail on their table and claim the first gator of the season for us. That left Kendyl, Colby’s sister, to show that the young women of the group could shoot as well by rolling up a big boar over on Boggy Creek to round out the weekend.
Then, after our big Labor Day weekend, we had a couple of Outdoor Channel hunting shows join us for some hunts as well as a big group of hog hunters from NC for one day. The TV shows all got some great footage while almost all of the NC crew saw hogs along with several big bucks. And when the smoke cleared, Bill and E.T. had put the bacon on our van’s bumper
buddies for a ride to our cooler along with Rhonda from Ridgeland who hammered her first hog over on Boggy Creek. So a huge congratulations to everyone that took a great animal with us as well as a BIG thank you to everyone who joined us for a hunt over the last few weeks.
Now we are in the middle of September, and our doe season starts tomorrow, so we should start to really put some deer on the ground for those that are looking for some tasty venison to take home. We are also now just 30 days away from October 15th, the South Carolina lowcountry’s traditional start up of the rut, and that is when our hunting should be the best. So please give us a call to book your hunt now. We truly look forward to helping you pursue the experience here at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge.
