South Carolina Lowcountry Deer Hunting Season Opens August 15th
Next Monday, August 15th, South Carolina’s lowcountry deer hunting season will open an hour before daylight and run through January 1st. It will be hot and buggy, but hopefully our big, velvet bucks will be on the move and presenting our guests with shots. We have been hard at work redoing many of our stands as well as setting up quite a few on a new tract of land that we will be hunting this season, so we are very excited to get things cranked up next week. In addition, we have also tilled up lots of food plots and spread tons of iron clay peas in them to entice the deer out of their hiding spots and into the waiting scopes of our hunters. All of this work should make for some great hunting, and we are looking forward to hitting the woods.
And over the last couple of weeks while we were prepping our deer hunting areas, we also had a couple of hog hunters looking to put some pork on the ground. Two of them were our buddies from Indiana, Mike and Scott of Treestand Assassin clothing, who came down for a few days looking to film some hunts, and they did not go home disappointed. Mike missed two hogs on camera the first night with his bow. However he more than redeemed himself the next afternoon when he dropped 2 hogs with his AR 15 while the camera rolled. He then took over the filming and caught Scott shooting one hog with Mike’s bow and then another with his AR! It was truly a 3 day hunt to remember for them as well as one that they will enjoy showing for a long time to come on their website!
That same weekend we also had our friends Gene and Randy down from NC for their one-afternoon hunt a month, and Randy hammered a nice River boar. Then, the next weekend we had our mutual friend Rick down with some of his Ashe County Wildlife club buddies for a day, and their member Truitt knocked a nice boar down on both the morning and afternoon hunt.
This past weekend we had our friends Jamie and her daughter Katie from PA along with Joe G. down again. And in addition to making a mean chicken dish, Joe leveled a tasty meat hog while Jamie shot a nice pig as well. And while Katie didn’t get her first pig while with us, she did see quite a few that just didn’t present her with a shot she felt comfortable with… but that is real pig hunting.
Like I said, next Monday we start off 4 and a half months of great deer hunting here in the SC lowcountry, so please give us a call if you are interested in joining us in the pursuit of velvet-racked bucks. But even if the weather is still a little too hot for you or you just don’t have the time right now, go ahead and give us a call to get on the books for some doe hunting that starts up on Sept. 15th or some great rut hunting that traditionally cranks up around the middle of October and run through Thanksgiving.
Also, don’t forget that we have the long-range shooting class coming up in September with Tactical Rifles. You can read all of the details about the day here. And it is already looking like we will have a full house for it, so make sure and get your reservations in if you are planning on staying with us and/or hunting that Saturday afternoon.
