Summer Rains in the Low Country
The SC Low Country has been plagued with an unusual amount of rainfall. Not only has it hampered our hunting, but has flooded out many stands and roadways.
The wild hogs have headed to high ground to escape the high water and the alligators. We are seeing an unusual amount of alligators in the roads and ditches everywhere. This has helped us locate many huge gators for our upcoming Gator Season that will start September 1 and go all the way until May 31 this year. This should offer plenty of opportunities for those after big swamp lizards. We have actually adjusted our prices some on our gator hunts due to the abundance of gators in the low country. Check it out on the website and we hope to see you with a big trophy alligator real soon!
The hog hunters that have braved the weather have actually done well on their hunts. When we were able to get to the stands between the storms the activity has been good. Reducing the opportunities for being able to hunt the hogs will surely result in a huge hog explosion in the woods and swamps this year. Plenty of sows with pigs are being seen and it won’t be long until these young pigs become huge hogs. We are anticipating an outstanding year for deer, hogs and alligators. There is so much fresh foliage and cover in the woods for the deer due to the rain. The hogs are multiplying like crazy due to the lack of being able to hunt them and keep them in check. The alligators have more areas of water than ever and find more food sources than usual. It’s really looking good this year!
It takes a crazy or just a plain tough hunter to endure the bad weather, mosquitos, bugs and heat to hunt right now, but the rewards have come to some of those that did.
Shawn from VA was one of those tough hunters that braved the storms to harvest this nice boar from the woods behind the lodge.
Our great friend Jeff was home from Germany for a short time to come and harvest another fine hog.
Jeff had a couple of other opportunities, but only shot one good hog. We look forward to seeing Jeff again in November with his dad and friends.
As you probably know the SC deer season opens on August 15 in the low country. Everyone at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge has been working extremely hard to get every detail ready for our guests. If you are looking for a great hunting experience in the low country, we would love to hear from you. We have many repeat hunters and always love to meet new ones. We hope to see you in our woods real soon!
