The Lowcountry Rut Has Started
We’re into the last part of October, and that means one thing: The RUT!
The cool weather two weeks ago got it started in the South Carolina lowcountry, and now the bucks are on their feet. They are not only scraping and rubbing, but we have seen a few bucks actually chasing does as well. This good deer movement has allowed our hunters to put quite a few deer on the ground along with a couple of hogs too.
Gary, down from NY, got us started last week when he shot a great boar over at Boggy Creek while he was down looking for a big 10 foot plus gator, which we came very close to killing twice. Wayne and his son Joe were also down from NY, and the two of them sat
together and filmed each others hunts. And it paid off last Monday evening when dad was able to film Joe shooting a great boar over on Boggy Creek. The next night it was Wayne’s turn to shoot, and he knocked down a tasty meat hog at the River.
Bruce and his two boys also were down from the upstate of SC, and they all had several opportunities on deer. Bruce ended up taking a nice spike over on our Sandy Run tract, but could have shot a monster buck the same morning IF he had taken more shells with him to the stand LOL! We have also had quite a few soldiers hunting with us lately, and one of them was Nathan that dropped a nice 6 point. Another soldier in camp was our friend Jeff, down from Ft. Bragg NC, staying over at the bow camp along with
two of his buddies. And while they all saw deer, it was his friend Drew who ended up taking home the venison when he shot a nice 10 point over on Boggy Creek.
Some of the other hunters that we had in camp this weekend that shot does included Randy, Tammy and Courtney from north Florida, Mr. Dalton and his son Steve from central FL, Angel from NJ, Joe from upstate SC, George and Gabe who shot a buck and a doe. So a huge congratulations to everyone who took home a deer or hog, and a big thank you to everyone that took time out of their busy
life to come and enjoy a hunt with us.
And while we have done pretty well over the last week or so, it should only get better from here because the last few days of October and the first few days of November are traditionally the best time to see a big buck. Please come and join us!
