Cold Weather Fuels Lowcountry Rut
Last week’s cold temperatures in the lowcountry kept the deer moving and made for some great hunting for the hunters we had in camp. Like I mentioned in last week’s post, Frank and his neighbor Ryan were down for the week from NY, and they both hammered some deer while here in South Carolina. Ryan got things started when he rolled up a great 8 point, then turned his gun on 3 does. However Frank quickly got into the action by shooting a good 6 point along with two does. But then Ryan kicked his hunting back into high gear and knocked down a 7 point behind the lodge followed by a 4 point over at Sandy Run bringing his total to 3 bucks and 3 does for their stay. So a big congrats to them on their great week here with us. Now we will just prepare for Frank’s return in December for some hog hunting and hope that he has the same great luck then…
This past week we also had quite a few other hunters that scored while hunting with us too. David and his wife Tracy were down from NC for two days, and they both saw animals including a couple of nice bucks. But it was David that loaded up the cooler when he first shot a doe, then racked up a hog at Boggy Creek. We also had Travis and his son Grant with us, and Grant showed how it is done by shooting two nice bucks. We also had our friend Jeff from NC at the bow camp where he got his first hog. However we weren’t done since some of us here at
Cypress Creek crew wanted in on the rut action; first when the headman arrowed a beautiful buck with his bow, followed by Quentin’s cousin Bonnie who racked up her first buck, and then finally myself who finally got a good one to mount when I shot a beautiful 10pt.
Along with several other hunters, we now have our good friend, veteran and new hunting show host Greg Stube at the lodge this week to film some hunts and get some footage for his new show. The weather has warmed up over the last day or two, but they are still seeing deer and even have one down. So we will just keep trying to keep them on the animals, and then bring you all of the details next week. We also want to give a huge shout out to all of the veterans like Greg on this Veteran’s Day for protecting our freedoms. Thanks You!
And if you still thinking about a hunt, come on down. The rut should run pretty strong through Thanksgiving, but it will still be good after that too with the colder weather creating the best hunting since they are forced to move and feed. So don’t wait – Come and join us!
