New and Repeat Hunters Enjoy Success
The South Carolina Deer Hunting for velvet bucks has continued the success all the way through August and the South Carolina Hog Hunting has been right there with it also. Our hunters at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge have been enjoying the success lately in big ways. As we enter the first two weeks of September, the bucks begin to rub off the velvet from their antlers and separate from the bachelor groups of summer. These first two weeks of September can be a little challenging for those new hard horned bucks. Usually we don’t book many hunts during these two weeks for that very reason, but so far the ones that have accepted the challenge have done pretty well. The wild hog hunting has been nothing short of incredible this year. With all the heavy rains of summer, the population of wild hogs in the low county has really soared. With limited hunting for hogs during the storms of summer and stands being flooded beyond reach, the hog hunting and pressure has been very limited. Now that the rains have subsided, the South Carolina Hog Hunting has been outstanding. Hunters Enjoy Success !
On September the 15th we can begin harvesting does as well as bucks. So if you want to fill your freezer with some tasty and healthy venison, the time has come. You will also have some good opportunities for some wild boar if you choose the combo hunt as most hunters do this time of the year.
Our alligator season begins September 1st. The South Carolina Alligator Hunting Season has been extended this year from September 1 to May 31 due to the amazing amount of alligators now in South Carolina. Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge offers one of the best and cheapest gator hunts in the South East. So whether your interest are big bucks, tasty does, wild hogs, alligators or spring turkey hunting, we would be thrilled to make your goals successful at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge.
One of our first successful hunters in August was our good ole’ friend, Carl Muse from Rock Hill, SC who once again harvested a beautiful velvet 8pt buck. Carl has had great hunting success every time hunting with us so far. Let’s keep that success going Carl!
August brought us two new hunters from PA this year. World Class Taxidermist Chris Horne and his dad Ralph who both met their goal hunting at Cypress Creek. Chris harvested a beautiful mature 6pt velvet buck and his dad harvested a nice 130# meat hog. Way to go guys and we look forward to your next trip.
Another new hunter with us was Gary Myers form NC. Gary was well pleased with his 8pt buck. Congratulations to him!
Our next group was Brian Edenfield with his two sons from NC returning again for more hunting. After several missed shots on bucks and hogs, the boys finally zeroed in on a nice velvet 8pt buck and a 5pt buck. Now for the taxidermist Dad!
For our next guest, we had my old friend Steve Gruber from MI with Wolf Creek Production TV here with Ivey to film a velvet buck hunt. After seeing a number of bucks either after good camera light or not offering a good filming on shot, they finally got it all together. Steve took a nice 8pt velvet buck with his CVA Muzzleloader. This hunt will air on TV on the Outdoor Channel in July of 2014. The show will be on Outdoor America so catch the hunt if you can. We will mention it again on our late June blog for our readers.
Our next group of hunters were father and son Bruce, Sr. and Bruce, Jr. from PA. Bruce, Jr. had some tough luck slightly wounding a huge 8pt buck that probably survived the wound. According to this father and son team, Jr. is usually the one that has all the luck. This time it was Bruce, Sr. with all the luck. Sr. took a very nice velvet 8pt buck, a 150# boar and two coyotes on his first ever visit to Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge. We enjoyed our time with our new guests and friends and we look forward to having they return soon for another hunt.
Carlos Costillo was back again from Miami, FL and really made it count with a best ever 8pt velvet buck. Carlos is one guy that really enjoys his time hunting. Carlos and friends will be back for the rut hunts later in the season and we can hardly wait!
As usual in the past week or two there has been some missed shots and many missed opportunities, but that is real hunting. We want to thank all of our hunters that come and hunt with us and share time in the great outdoors. It’s always great to harvest the animals that we go after on hunts, but remember there is a lot more to a successful hunt. Always remember to “Pursue the Experience” in every way!
